Assets can be searched like any other item in your ILS. Metadata and keywords included in the asset definition provide the terms used in searching. In addition, you can elect to allow Portfolio to scan text from image files to include the full text in the index.
Portfolio includes jobs in the scheduled tasks for extracting and indexing the metadata and text so patrons can locate and retrieve assets. The SD_ASSET_EXTRACTOR job in System Tasks can be scheduled to harvest data on a regular basis. When it has completed its job, it launches the SD_ASSET_IMPORT and SD_ASSET_INDEX tasks to complete the indexing of the metadata and make it available for searching.
Portfolio includes a search source for your assets and a corresponding search target. These let you include asset searching in specific profiles while leaving it out of others. You can customize the asset target and search source in Search Configuration.
